Overview
Charts use a graphical format to display information found by a query. Charts
are a way to query data graphically for further analysis. Rational ClearQuest
provides three charts to help you analyze your data: distribution, trend, and
aging charts. You can display a chart in five formats: pie, bar, stacked bar,
area, and line.
There are three main parts to a chart: the x-axis for grouping the data; the
y-axis for defining how the data is measured; and the legend.
This tool mentor provides the steps for the following:
You use the Chart Wizard to create a distribution chart, a trend chart, or an aging chart. To create a chart, do the following:
- Click Query > New Chart or click the Chart button on the toolbar.
- Select the record type that you want to chart, and click OK.
- Under Chart Type, click the type of chart you want to create, and click Next.
- Select the Run Query checkbox to run a query when you create the chart. If you leave the Run Query checkbox cleared, the chart results will be empty until you define which records you want to chart, using the Query Editor tab.
- Specify the parameters for the chart type and click Next.
- Define labels for the chart, and click Next.
- Select the type of display you want to use for the chart, and click Next. Bar, stacked bar, and pie displays are helpful for distribution charts. Line and area displays are helpful for trend and aging charts.
- Customize how your chart will appear by selecting the checkboxes for the styles that you want to include in your chart.
- Click Finish to compile the chart.
- To save the chart, click File > Save or File > Save As.
Charts you have saved can be run when you want to analyze the data. To run a chart:
- Double-click the chart in the workspace.
- Depending on the chart you selected, you may be prompted to specify parameters that further define the query associated with the chart. If this happens, specify the parameters you want and click OK or Run Query.
To print a chart, do the following:
- Click anywhere on the chart that you want to print.
- To print, the chart display area must be active.
- To see a preview of what you are printing, select File > Print Preview.
- To print a chart in black and white, you must be viewing the chart in black and white. Make sure that View > Color is not selected.
- Click File > Print Chart.
- In the Print dialog box, select the options you want to use, and click OK.
